We got the key on Tuesday and the rest is a bit of a blur. So many things have happened since then.
There were the people who stopped by, from random neighbors to friends coming to see for themselves. All with proper social distancing, of course.
The furnace, which we hoped was going to last a year or two turned out to be dead on arrival. Well, sort of, because it works at limited capacity, if you look past the gas leak.
We had only one key at first, so naturally we locked ourselves out of the house. Thankfully, Kelly is double jointed and was able to crawl back in through the doggie door, the previous owners had left behind.
This was also a good prompt to go ahead and remove that doggie door, which we’ve since done. Oh, and I built my first fire pit for those late evenings of sipping hard liquor by the fire, perhaps under a harvest moon.
The first meal was cooked and eaten. We had help from Callie, who made a killer salad to accompany Kelly’s stir fry. It was a grand first meal, with bubbly wine and no tables. We sat in camping chairs and enjoyed the bunnies hopping through the backyard, music piping through the tiny bluetooth speaker we brought on the first day.
There is a LOT to fix and improve in this house, but we don’t mind that. We are lucky to have a few weeks to stretch the move over, which gives us time to identify and plan out what needs to be done, while slowly moving in.
Next week, the goal is to start sleeping and actually living here. Kelly might be a bit ahead of me, as she is also heading back to work. Also for work, I’m waiting to make the permanent move until my internet connection moves too…
❤️❤️ I’m so very happy for you guys!
